Today marks the first day of the camino. As we begin my mind is flooded with emotions, mostly excitement, some nerves, an uneasy readiness to face the challenges that lay ahead. It was a hard day walking and almost entirely uphill about 1,800 feet. I threw up at the top, probably drank too much water or pushed myself too hard on the first day or some combination of the two. But I wasn’t going to let that bring me down, as soon as we arrived at Refuge Orisson I was greeted with a cold Coke and a paté sandwich. Showering was like a gift from heaven. Life is good. Samuel is on my mind constantly, a gentle reminder that although I’m here to experience the Camino for myself I am also serving a mission through my walk. It keeps me motivated, though as of yet I haven’t needed any additional motivation. Surely that will change at some point. When? Who knows… I am incredibly blessed to be on this journey.

¡Buen Camino!
